For this issues piece I was challenged to draw outside of my comfort zone using a different style. I went with Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid because it’s one of my all-time favourite video games, and because I thought that the character would best suit the cell shading technique I was aiming to achieve. Cell shading is one of my favourite drawing styles but I had never really taken the time to properly try it.
When creating this piece I stuck to black & white and used my usual blending technique for the shading, I then combined this with strong dark outlines to highlight the features and create a cell shading effect. I then topped this out by creating a coloured background to help my drawing pop and added slight tints on the shoulders and face to help emphasise the lighting.
